When I look back on my childhood, I only have two real regrets. The first is that I spent so much dam time catching Pokemon. (I really should have been reading a book) The second is that I never learned to play a musical instrument.

Now while some of you will reason that my failure to learn to play an instrument was a direct result of having a Gameboy glued to my hands, I like to think that it was simply due to an utter lack of musical inspiration. Sure I listened to music, but I just didn’t have that personal connection to learning how to play music. When I was growing up, I only knew one person that played an instrument. He played the Tuba. And I don’t know if you have seen tubas recently but they are not exactly the most inspiring pieces of equipment.

See what I needed as a kid was someone to make learning to play an instrument cool. I needed someone to show me that playing an instrument could be more than just rehashing random sheet music. I needed Charly & Margaux.

Arguably the most dynamic Violin and Viola duo since (Insert famous violin and viola pairing here), Charly and Margaux are the perfect mix of classical skill and contemporary style. Based out of Boston, these two masters of the strings don’t bore you with the cliche selection of composers and compositions. Instead, they use their musical prowess to take on the equally enjoyable, yet often unappreciated hip-hop stylings of the present. From the remix to the ratchet, these ladies have an ability to add a level of depth and personality to any track they cover.  Oh and did I mention they teach?

So while I may be musically inept for the rest of my days, at least I know that the new school has something much cooler than the tuba to inspire them to put down the toys and learn to play something really worth while.
