Real Experience + Real Perspective= Real Justice
This was the foundation upon which the Campaign to Elect Melvin Priester Hinds County Court Judge was built. For over a year, during one of the most contentious County Court Judicial races in Mississippi history, this message guided the campaign as it sought to convince the citizens of Hinds County that Judge Melvin Priester was not just the best choice but the only choice.
I share this tidbit of political trivia with you not because I have developed a new found love for campaign literature (Its always been AMAZING) or because I am wearing my smedium Anderson Cooper shirt, but because Judge Melvin Priester is my father and for the last year his campaign was my life.
Now to be fair, when I say, “my life”, I really mean my family’s life. To make this campaign a reality, each and every member of my family was called into action. My father was the candidate. My brother was the Campaign Director. My mother was the Campaign Coordinator. My aunt was the Analytics Director. I was the Communication Director. Heck even my 101 year old grandmother got into the act as the star of two campaign commercials. So when I tell you that this campaign was a family matter, please believe that I’m not talking about the Winslows.
Urkel references aside, for as strong as the resolve was within my family to make this campaign a success, none of it would have been possible without the support of the community. Now while I know that it is something of a given that every candidate looks for the support of a community to be successful, this election demanded something special. It was with the of the support of the community that my father was able to emerge from a congested general election field with a 5000 vote lead over his closest opponent. It was with the support of the community that the momentum of the general election was turned into a runoff election victory. It was with the support of the community that Melvin Priester was able to become the first African American judge for Hinds County Sub-district 1.
So as January 3rd marked both the beginning of my father’s term and the end of this year long journey, I thought it was time to come up with a new equation.
Priester On The Bench= Order In The Court
